Have you ever heard of a babymoon? It’s the all new craze and possibly one of the best crazes I’ve heard of in a long while.
One where you and your partner book a little break away for either a night, a weekend or if your lucky a whole week before the baby arrives. For once that little tiny baby arrives, life just revolves around it and it may be a long time before you get that chance again.
My husband and I decided we would book a little baby moon, we desperately needed it as since our last baby Darcy was born 18 months ago we have been away once on our own (see what I mean) So we booked a nice little night away which coincided with our third wedding anniversary. My god how time flies.
We booked the The Shandon Hotel and Spa in Portnablagh, Dunfanaghy, Co Donegal for one night. We managed to bag a super cheap deal as we booked it during a 50% off sale which they promote regular via their Facebook page.
We booked a lovely executive suite for the night as we thought we deserved a little luxury.
So off we headed on a very hot Friday afternoon for Dunfanaghy. It’s only an hour or so from where we live which is super handy but I must admit I have never been to that side of Donegal. Shocking!
We arrived at the hotel and the warmest of greetings, the staff were so pleasant and accommodating. We got our room key and headed up to get dressed for dinner. We had a lovely bottle of champagne waiting for us with some chocolate goodies. Needless to say I demolished the chocolates and took the champers home for a post baby celebration.
Our room was so so beautiful, the fabrics and textures are stunning. There was plenty room, we had a mini fridge, seating area the ultimate view. I mean the hotel is in an amazing location, so much scenery and an amazing view of the bay. I could lay there looking at it all day.
We opted for bar food, in Beats bar as I don’t have room for much else, but I heard the dinner in Marbles restaurant is so delicious. So I will be back to check that out.
The dinner was delicious at beats, I had chicken curry and it was suburb. The service was top-notch, the waiting staff went above and beyond to make sure everything was ok and the place was packed with holiday makers as it was May bank holiday weekend. We stayed for a few drinks, well my hubby did but not long as I was exhausted. So headed to bed by 10pm haha so sensible but it’s exactly why we were there. SLEEP!
SLEEP we did too, the hotel was so quiet. We didn’t hear any foot traffic or noise at all which was great. The bed was super cosy and huge I couldn’t even find Gavin lol we slept like logs and it was great not getting woken by screaming kids. We just chilled out looking out at the wonderful view and got up for breakfast in the bar which again was yummy.
The Shandon have the most amazing spa with a wonderful thermal suite, one of the main reasons why I have always fancied going here but unfortunately you can’t go when pregnant, so I guess I will definitely need to return once baby is born. I’ll start a new craze for that a post baby-moon. I am dying to check out the hot tub which over looks the view.
There was plenty groups, couples and family’s staying at the hotel which proves the Shandon Hotel cater for all guests. It was really lovely and felt like we were a million miles away. We will definitely be returning and checking out more of the local scenery. The beach down the road looks like somewhere in Spain just beautiful.
Off course you don’t have to take my word for how amazing the Shandon is check out TripAdvisor and see the wonderful reviews.
If your pregnant and need a break book a babymoon, anywhere at all, you deserve it. Rest and Relax.
